The National Transport Authority (NTA) chairs an International rail Conference in Dubai on the 11th May 2010.  The participation of the NTA was part of its long term strategy to forge partnership and collaborative working with the local, regional and international Railway Industry organisations.  The NTA is the Federal Government body that is responsible for the UAE's Land (i.e. Rail, Road) and maritime transport industry sectors.


During the preparation for this Conference, HE Dr. Nasser Saif Al Mansoori, Director General of the NTA, stated that " we want to develop a Railway Industry that is fit-for-purpose, play a positive part in the UAE economy and provide a complementary role to the integration and sustainability of the UAE transport system" HE Dr. AL Mansoori also added that " The foundation of the UAE Railway Industry will play an important part of the UAE vision 2021 also will form crucial transport logistical hub for the region"
The conference was attended by Local Transport Authorities, Union Railway Company, Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) countries.  Well over 200 international delegates came to the Conference to learn about the UAE Railway Industry emergence and the planned projects for the future. The NTA was represented by their Railway Expert, Eng. Bassam Mansour, who also chaired the International Conference.


The conference debated many important issues including Rail Regulations, Railway National Standards, Safety, also interactive panels discussions.  Eng. Bassam Mansour stated that "we are developing fair and efficient regulations that will safeguard public interest and bolster investor confidence, so that the interests of the public and private inventors in the UAE can flourish".  Many European railway organisations who spoke in the Conference confirmed the NTA prudent approach to the building of the Railway Industry and emphasised the strong role of the Government in the design of efficient regulations and national standards.


On the wider issues of the development of the Railway Industry for the UAE, HE Eng. Abdulla AL Katheeri, Executive Director for the Land Transport Sector stated that " We are building new Railway Industry in our Country because of our firm belief that it plays a strategic rule in saving our emirates from traffic congestion, reduces CO2 emissions, and offers a whole new way of travel and employment for the UAE and beyond.   Our greatest hope must be that this Industry which we are passionate about takes roots in the UAE and it is here to stay".
