As part of the NTA long term efforts in simplifying the trade and transport facilities in the UAE and maintaining long-held view of the efficiency of the UAE in the field of trade and transport facilitation, NTA and Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a joint workshop to explore means to benchmark existing trade and transport facilitation a against the best-in-class in the world.

The workshop was held in Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 30th May 2010 under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mobarak  AL Nahyan, the Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the National Transport Authority (NTA).  The workshop was enthusiastically attended by key stakeholders including Ministry of Foreign Trade, Custom and excise, Ministry of Finance and other representatives.
The workshop was attended and supported by organisations such as the Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA) and United Nation Development Projects (UNDP) as part of these organisations long-term effort in the region
The workshop focused on key issues affecting the UAE and provided comparative practices with other nations trade and transport facilities systems.  It was apparent from the comparative analysis discussed in the workshop that UAE was clearly a leader in trade and transport facilitation at regional level and beyond.  Notwithstanding this, and mindful of the UAE 2021 vision of becoming one of the best countries in the world, the workshop discussed the following objectives necessary to achieve the desired excellence in service delivery:
a)    improve the flow of trade across the UAE and cross-border with neighbouring countries;
b)    minimize time and cost in processing the trade movement across the UAE;
c)    harmonization and standardization of trade facilities across the UAE, this will clearly help strengthening the institutional capacity of the UAE;
d)    raise the competitive advantage of the UAE and confirm its place in the world as a place where investors and trade organization can easily do business.
e)    provision of certainty and predictability of processes and procedures for trade facilities.
HE Abdulla AL Katheeri, Executive Director of Land Transport Sector stated that “although we have an efficient and working system in our country, we are always looking for continual improvement in the delivery of our services to adopt best practice and boost our competitiveness”.
The workshop was successful and informative and concluded with a plan for studying the establishment of national committee through collaborative working with all stakeholders in order to bring about the desired benefits to the UAE.
