Initiated management of the National Transport Authority recently contacted its partners for the draft of the final strategic plan for the year 2011 - 2013 derived from the principal directions of the Federal Government for the second session of its strategic plan, which was implemented to the" Vision of the United Arab Emirates 2021" which have been launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Chairman of the Board Minister and Ruler of Dubai at the beginning of this year.

The national transport authority has been commissioned by AlHosn university, ) to conduct a comprehensive nationwide road safety study. The results will be used to formulate better strategies, standards and policies and define the role of various institutions in developing an advanced national land transport programme.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) chaired an international conference on the use of tunnels for both rail and road on the 24th May 2010 in Abu Dhabi. The Conference was attended by Abu Dhabi Municipality and some 200 international organizations including Japanese, Korean, Austrian, French, German, American, GCC countries and a host of international practitioners and leaders in the field of tunneling and underground construction.

As part of the NTA long term efforts to improve Land Transport system in the UAE, it has identified the School Transport System as a priority due to traffic congestion and the rising number of road crashes and the consequential fatalities. The NTA has called for the harmonisation of School Transport Systems in the UAE to ensure high quality travel for students, safe and reliable journeys from home to school and vice versa.

The National Transport Authority led a meeting on Monday March 31st, 2010 with a Syrian delegation to discuss the agreement with the Ministry of Transport and on the mutual recognition of marine qualifications that certify seafarers. Attending this meeting was H.E. Dr. Nasser Al Mansouri - Director General of the National Transport Authority, H.E. Salem Al Zaabi - Executive Director of Maritime Transport Sector, Dr. Saoud Al Junaibi – Director of Operations and Maritime Safety, Captain Saleem Alavi & Captain Osama Sultan and from the Syrian delegation Mr. Ghazi Hamdan – Director General of the Directorate General Ports & Alaa Suleiman – Director of Maritime Inspections of the Directorate General of Ports.
